Develop takedowns, guard passing, positional control, escapes and submissions through our adult No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu program.
Beginners learn a complete pathway from standing to the ground through the four steps of Takedown, Pass, Control and Submit.
Continue recreationally, develop your own game or follow the optional competition pathway.

Many members focus entirely on Muay Thai or Jiu-Jitsu. Others cross-train across both arts or follow the complete Mixed Martial Arts pathway.
Each program has its own structure, progression and coaching focus. One membership gives you the freedom to stay within one art or explore the wider system.

A Complete Martial Arts Academy in Brookvale
The Apex MMA system organises training across four connected ranges:
STRIKING
Control distance and attack with punches, kicks, elbows and knees.
CLINCHING
Grabbing at close range to create abilities for strikes, trips and throws.
WRESTLING
Decide where combat takes place through takedowns and defence.
GRAPPLING
Control positions, escape danger and apply submissions on the ground.
Muay Thai develops Striking and Clinching. Jiu-Jitsu develops Wrestling and Grappling. Mixed Martial Arts connects all four.
You can specialise in one art or move across the system as your experience and goals develop.
Start with a Structured Beginner Program
Starting martial arts can feel intimidating. Our beginner programs are designed to remove that uncertainty.
Each class follows a clear structure. Coaches explain what you are learning, why it works and how to practise safely with your training partners.
Our adult beginner pathways run across 12 weeks and are designed for people with no previous experience.
You do not need to be fit before starting.
Beginner classes have no head contact. Jiu-Jitsu and MMA beginners use controlled positional training to develop practical skills at a manageable pace.
Two sessions each week is a strong place to begin.

Beginner
Learn the core concepts and foundational skills of your chosen martial art.
Intermediate
Develop transitions, tactical understanding and the ability to apply your skills under controlled pressure.
Advanced
Build your own game, refine your decision-making and continue developing through long-term practice.
Competition
Competition is always optional. Students who choose that path can progress into dedicated competition and fight-team training.
Whether your goal is fitness, self-defence, learning a new skill or competing, there is a pathway available.

Adult Programs
Adults can train Muay Thai, No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, MMA or a combination of all three.
Classes are divided by experience so beginners can learn in a comfortable environment while experienced students continue to progress.
Kids and Teens
Our kids and teens programs use martial arts to develop confidence, discipline, coordination, communication and tactical thinking.

Apex MMA carries forward a Northern Beaches martial arts lineage that began in 1994, when Anthony Lange opened Lange’s MMA in Manly.
Sonny Brown, Nick Pudney and Chad Lumley spent years training, competing and coaching within that academy before founding Apex MMA in Brookvale in 2022.
We respect the traditions, skills and cultures that shaped each martial art. We also continue to refine how those arts are taught through modern coaching methods, evidence-informed practice and ongoing technical development.
The result is a system grounded in history but built for the people training today.

Nick Pudney
A martial arts coach with more than 20 years of experience across Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts.
Nick coaches adults, kids and teens across multiple Apex programs.
Sonny Brown
Three-time Australian MMA Champion, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, qualified Health and Physical Education teacher and Folkstyle Wrestling coach.
Sonny coaches Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts.
Chad Lumley
A lifelong martial artist with extensive experience in striking, traditional martial arts, Muay Thai, sparring and fighter development.
Chad leads Muay Thai sparring and helps guide the Apex fight team.
