No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Classes in Brookvale

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), a ground-based grappling sport, focuses on leverage, and joint manipulation, prioritising technique over size and strength. With proper execution, it enables a smaller person to control a larger and stronger opponent.

Learn takedowns, positional control, escapes and submissions through a structured adult No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu program.

Train Jiu-Jitsu as a complete standalone martial art, or combine it with Muay Thai and MMA through the wider Apex system.

Beginner to Advanced. No experience required.

Jiu-Jitsu Brookvale

A COMPLETE NO-GI JIU-JITSU PROGRAM

You do not need to train MMA to study Jiu-Jitsu at Apex.

Many of our members train exclusively in Jiu-Jitsu. They follow a complete pathway through Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and optional Competition classes.

Our adult program is taught without the traditional Gi. Training focuses on practical grips, movement, wrestling, positional control and submissions that can be applied in No-Gi grappling, self-defence and competition.

Whether you are completely new or already experienced, the goal is long-term development within the art.

WRESTLING // GRAPPLING

Jiu-Jitsu at Apex covers two connected ranges of combat.

Wrestling

Wrestling determines where the exchange takes place.

You will learn handfighting, takedowns, takedown defence and transitions between standing and ground positions.

Strong wrestling allows you to bring an opponent to the ground, remain standing when needed and begin grappling from a position of control.

Grappling

Grappling begins once the exchange reaches the ground.

You will learn positional control, guard passing, escapes, sweeps, submissions and strategies from both top and bottom positions.

Together, Wrestling and Grappling form a complete Jiu-Jitsu system from the feet to the floor.

The Four Steps of Apex Jiu-Jitsu

Our beginner system organises Jiu-Jitsu into four clear stages.

Takedown

Bring your opponent from standing to the ground while maintaining balance and control.

Pass

Move beyond the opponent’s legs and defensive guard.

Control

Use pinning positions to limit movement and create reliable transitions.

Submit

Apply a joint lock or choke once control has been established.

Jiu-Jitsu is not always a straight line through these four stages.

You will also learn how to escape, reverse position, sweep and attack from underneath when the exchange does not go according to plan.

This gives you a way to continue solving problems from every position.

Start with Our 12-Week Beginner Program

Our Beginner No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu program is designed for adults with no previous experience.

The program runs across 12 weeks, with two beginner lessons available each week.

Classes introduce the major positions, movements and concepts of the art in a controlled sequence.

  • Escapes
  • Sweeps
  • Joint locks
  • Chokes
  • Positional movement
  • Safe training habits
